“If you really want to change your life, start immediately.” Osho
The quote above from Osho is, in my opinion, a beautiful mix of truth and simplicity.
It’s true because to change your current circumstances in life, you must stop what you are doing that led to you being where you are now, and instead choose a better option.
It’s simple because it tells you what you need to do to do this, and also when you must do it … which is right now.
Now simple doesn’t mean easy, it just means simple.
Because if it was easy, everybody would do it.
But the mind is a tricky thing, it loves safety and comfort, and even when things aren’t working, it will hold on to a particular pattern or routine just because it has become safe …
… and anyone who has studied neuroscience knows how much the brain likes safety. It is the brain’s number one priority.
It is the main reason why people keep on doing the same things over and over, even though they never get their desired outcome.
We’ve all fallen into this trap, right?
Well, there’s only one way out of these negative patterns, and that is to break the routine.
To interrupt the pattern.
To do the opposite of what has been holding you back.
For example, I have had consultations with people who have listened to their medical doctor for decades, even though the advice they’ve been given hasn’t been working … in fact it has only made them worse.
Then when I explain our approach, which is different to the medical model as we look to create health rather than to fight disease…
Some at first can be resistant, not only because it flies in the face of their doctor’s approach, but because it means changing their lifestyle.
When this happens, I like to remind people that if what they had been doing was working, then they wouldn’t be on the phone to me … which always brings a chuckle and a realisation that it is indeed time to try a different path.
It is no coincidence that those who take the action straight away and commit to change, always, without fail, get the best results.
Now, of course, others want to change …
… but just not immediately, not right now. They want time to think it through, to talk themselves out of it.
This is often referred to as, ‘The Law of Diminishing Intent’, and the longer a person leaves a situation and doesn’t take action, the less likely they will follow through with their supposed commitment.
The key to avoiding this situation is to change, as soon as you know that change is what’s necessary …
That way you can quickly adjust your circumstances, and be on the road to living the life you crave.
Remember … YOU are in control of you.
You are in control of what you do …
You are in control of what you eat …
You are in control of what you feel …
You are in control where you are …
And …
You are in control of who you surround yourself with.
And although we can’t control what goes on it the outside world, we can control our actions, and how we respond.
This makes our personal values and individual decisions even more important.
The decision to compromise and persist with unchanging behaviours will continue to lead to results we don’t want.
Unfortunately, most of life is driven by compromise because of fear of conflict and consequence. Most people want an easy life and they think that by compromising they will get that.
Not only will you not get that easy life, but you’ll be left with pain and regret, and you will most likely end up resenting yourself.
The truth is failing to change what is needed doesn’t lead to a life of fulfillment, it leads to a life of insecurity, frustration, heartache, and when it comes to health … pain and disease.
So my questions to you are …
What is it that you know you should change in your life but you haven’t done so yet?
What have you known in your heart for a long time isn’t working?
What method(s) should you try instead?
Who do you need to work with, or, contact?
Who can help you change what you need to?
Hopefully answering those questions will lead you to where you need to go.
Equally, I hope this message will lead you to finally pulling the trigger and making the change(s) you need.
Because if you don’t do it now, when will you?
And by taking action now, in as soon as a week or a month, you could finally be pain/frustration/anxiety/heartache free.
Wouldn’t that be great?
Exactly!
So tell me … what changes are you going to you make today?
Let me know below.
