Recently I have been overloaded with messages and emails from people asking for help who have been struggling with acid reflux or GERD (Gastroesophageal Disease).

Most of these people have had the problem for months or years and it’s refusing the budge. This is no surprise to me because they have all been told that they have too much stomach acid and have been put on medication to reduce their stomach acid by their doctors, which is a completely novice move. Some have even been given antibiotics and drugs for their stomach lining which is just madness.

(Sometimes I wonder what they actually get taught in medical school apart from how to dispense drugs, but I digress.)

If these people had an abundance of stomach acid they would have supreme health. Having plenty of stomach acid would allow them to digest, metabolise, assimilate and eliminate their food with ease and absolutely no discomfort or after effects.

They would be able to break down their food to such an extent they would be able to extract all the available nutrients in their food that many of us can’t , which would lead them to having super health.

So…What is Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux occurs when acid from the stomach comes through an opening known as the Lower Esophageal sphincter which results in a burning sensation often referred to as “heartburn.”. Gastroesophageal Disease is when acid reflux becomes a chronic health issue.

So What Causes Acid Reflux?

Most doctors think that Acid reflux is a problem with the smooth muscle control of the lower esophageal sphincter which causes the opening of the stomach to either remain open.

There are two main mechanisms by which this sphincter functions, one is that it closes in response to the presence of acid in the stomach and the other is the nervous system controls of the smooth muscle involved with this sphincter.

So, if there is a lower than normal amount of acid in the stomach, the sphincter will stay open. This presents a huge problem for people that are on acid reflux medications like proton pump inhibitors because these reduce the amount of acid in the stomach and will cause the sphincter to stay open which allows the acid to start eating away at the esophagus.

The Solution

The first step would be increasing the level of stomach acid in the stomach which seems counterintuitive for people on proton pump inhibitors, however, you need to keep in mind that the problem in the first place is that there wasn’t enough stomach acid not that there was too much. This is a total misunderstanding of gastric physiology that everyone must understand.

You could take betaine HCL supplements for a very short period of time to temporarily relieve some of your symptoms however, the best solution would be to radically change your diet and lifestyle.

The other issue is to address the compromised nerve supply to the lower esophageal sphincter. The best solution for this would be to find a chiropractor or chek practitioner that understands how to restore nerve supply and stimulate the healing process.

Summary

Drugs and medication will only mask symptoms at best. In fact, most people that I speak to tell me these drugs make absolutely no difference to their acid reflux or GERD and instead make them feel worse, which is no surprise as they are toxic to the body and there use is damaging vital internal organs. (Don’t believe me, look at the side effect listed.)

No one, I repeat, NO ONE, IS BORN WITH A DEFICIENCY IN MEDICATION!

Your body wants to be healthy. Its default setting is health.

If you want to get to the route of this problem and turn your situation around, addressing your diet and lifestyle are the only way you are going to get long term results so you can live a pain free life full of energy and vigour.

If you want help with this you only have to ask.
