“Every year, millions of women flock to their doctors to get their annual mammograms, a breast cancer screening procedure that involves pressing a woman’s breasts between two metal platforms to scope out tumours. But surgeons everywhere are starting to question the controversial practice, which studies show isn’t even an effective screening tool and is actually harmful to the bodies of women who receive it.”
I have long talked about the negative effects of mammograms.
Although your doctor may say that having a mammogram may reduce your risk of dying by 20 percent, you’d be surprised by how that percentage is calculated. As explained by Dr. Andrew Lazris and environmental scientist Erik Rifkin, Ph.D., for every 1,000 women who do not get mammograms, five will die from breast cancer. For every 1,000 women who do get regular mammograms, four will die.
The difference between those two groups is 20 percent, or the one person whose life is saved by getting a mammogram. Now, a new study from the Netherlands demonstrates that no matter how this number was calculated, it is likely not accurate. What’s worse, the reverse side of the equation is that more women are actually harmed by the procedure or undergo unnecessary treatment as a result of false positives.
One of the largest and longest studies of mammography to date, involving 90,000 women followed for 25 years, found that mammograms have absolutely NO impact on breast cancer mortality.
Over the course of the study, the death rate from breast cancer was virtually identical between those who received an annual mammogram, and those who did not.
22 percent of screen-detected invasive breast cancers were also over-diagnosed, leading to unnecessary treatment. Scary right?
The truth is mammograms can be extremely dangerous and negatively impact a women’s health. How Mammograms works is that they employ ionising radiation. That ionising radiation actually carries a risk of developing cancer. Even worse is the fact that the new 3-D mammography, also called breast tomosynthesis, uses more radiation to achieve sharper images. More radiation, more risk of developing cancer.
Not only can you develop cancer from a mammogram but data shows after 10 mammograms you have a 50 to 60 percent risk of receiving a false positive result, potentially necessitating further testing with more radiation or even treatment that you don’t need.
If you do want to test for breast cancer then the safest and best test for you to do is called thermal imaging or thermography, which creates a digital map of your body, illustrating heat patterns that may detect some condition or abnormality using a scanning-type infrared camera that measures your body’s surface temperature.
Unlike a mammogram, thermography can increase your chances of detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages by locating irregular patterns in the breast – conditions that occur before a noticeable lump is formed.
Thermal imaging looks at vascular changes in the breast and detects blood flow patterns, inflammation and asymmetries. Mammograms, on the other hand, focus on anatomical changes, like masses or lumps in the breast tissue.
Thermograms because they benefit all women, are quick and non-invasive, make no contact with the body, and provides more financial savings than conventional diagnostic tools.
Aside from breast cancer, thermography screenings can also help detect many other conditions, including heart disease, arthritis, neck and back pain, sinus issues, dental issues, immune dysfunction, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, carpal tunnel syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, etc.
As you can see, thermography is a far superior option to a mammogram, and even though Mammograms are portrayed as the best form of “prevention” a woman can get the research shows this to be a fallacy. Plus, early diagnosis is not the same as prevention. Mammograms as a form of cancer screening do more harm than good, and therefore can hardly qualify as “your best bet” against becoming a cancer statistic!
If you really want to protect yourself from cancer you need to look and your diet and lifestyle. Research shows you may be able to prevent 75 to 90 percent of breast cancers through lifestyle changes such as reducing exposure to hazardous toxins, seeking out organic products, severely reducing refined sugar and fructose and limiting protein.
