“The most egregious factoid is the erroneous belief that heart attacks result from an elevated blood cholesterol that is due primarily to increased fat consumption. This myth has been perpetrated by the cholesterol cartel of low fat food and lipid lowering drug manufacturers, as well as prestigious organisations and physicians that are the recipients of their largesse. However, if you repeat a lie often enough and long enough, people will believe it and it eventually becomes the truth.” Paul Rosch, MD, FACP, Clinical Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry
Sorry to start the article off on such a serious note, but this is a hot topic and one that needs to be taken seriously.
Now I’m going to say something that may shock you.
No one has ever died from too much cholesterol, you die from not enough!
Did you get that? Just in case you missed it here it is again…
No one has ever died from too much cholesterol, you die from not enough!
The fact that Mother’s Milk is the highest cholesterol containing food on earth should tell you all you need to know. Mother nature doesn’t make mistakes!
You see dietary fat and subcutaneous body fat are two very different things. The same principle is also true with cholesterol as there is no relationship between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol.
High cholesterol is beneficial, it protects against cancer and infectious diseases. The anti-infectious effect of cholesterol is particularly challenging because a host of observations have documented a strong link between infections and cardiovascular diseases.
For almost half a century we have been brainwashed to believe that cholesterol is the bad guy.
How can cholesterol be bad and at the same time protect us against factors that are harmful to our vessels?
The anti-cholesterol campaign has done immense harm. Just look at the epidemic of obesity and diabetes, the most serious health problems in the Western world today.
Another problem is the widespread medicalisation of mankind. Today millions of healthy people are converted to patients taking cholesterol-lowering drugs, and if the official guidelines should be followed, in the future, most adults and even many children will be taking them for the rest of their lives, which is truly shocking!
Worse is that the side effects of these drugs, many of which are debilitating and even fatal, are hugely under reported.
One side effect of taking statins for example, is that the drug shrinks your brain. Statins are a cholesterol lowering drug, and your brain is 92% – 98% cholesterol. So if you want to have a brain the size of a marble, I suggest you keep taking those statin pills.
That is just one side effect of statins.
But of course the more people on prescription drugs the more money the government makes, so no wonder they cherry pick the information they release into the mainstream news.
Luckily for you I have no agenda, except wanting to see people at their healthiest and happiest.
So here are some facts that the government don’t want you to know…
- cholesterol is not a deadly poison, but a substance vital to the cells of mammals.
- your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat.
- production increases when you eat small amounts of cholesterol and decreases when you eat large amounts.
- heart patients haven’t eaten more saturated fat than other people.
- stroke patients have eaten less.
- people with low cholesterol become just as athersclerotic as people with high.
- high cholesterol is not a risk factor for women.
- high cholesterol is not a risk factor for old people although by far the most heart attacks occur after age 65.
- many of the cholesterol lowering drugs are dangerous to your health and may shorten your life.
- the cholesterol campaign creates immense prosperity for researchers, doctors, medical journals, drug producers and the food industry.
Not only is cholesterol not bad, it is one of the most vitally important substances inside of your body. Every cell of your body is made from it, and ALL of your steroid hormones are synthesised from cholesterol, including all of the sex and adrenal hormones!
Another question to ask would be, if cholesterol is so bad, then why does the liver send cholesterol to the site of any injury in the body?
It does this because the body cannot clear the infection, remove toxic elements or heal the wound without cholesterol and fats. Any healing involves the birth, growth and functioning of thousands of cells: immune cells, endothelial cells and many others.
As these cells, to a considerable degree, are made out of cholesterol and fats, they cannot form and grow without a good supply of these substances. When the cells are damaged, they require cholesterol and fats to repair themselves.
It is a scientific fact that any scar tissue in the body contains good amounts of cholesterol.
Another scientific fact is that cholesterol acts as an antioxidant in the body, dealing with free radical damage.
Any wound in the body contains plenty of free radicals because the immune cells use these highly reactive molecules for destroying microbes and toxins.
Excess free radicals have to be neutralised, and cholesterol is one of the natural substances that accomplishes this function.
When we have surgery, our tissues are cut and many small arteries, veins and capillaries get damaged. The liver receives a very strong signal from this damage, so it floods the body with LDL-cholesterol to clean and heal every little wound in our blood vessels.
That is why blood cholesterol goes high after any surgical procedure.
After dental treatment, in addition to the damage to the tissues, a lot of bacteria from the tooth and the gums finish up in the blood, attacking the inside walls of our blood vessels.
Once again, the liver gets a strong signal from that damage and produces lots of healing cholesterol to deal with it, so the blood cholesterol goes up.
The same thing happens when we have an infection: LDL-cholesterol goes up to deal with the bacterial or viral attack.
I could go on, but I feel I have made my point.
So next time you feel guilty about eating a steak or a nice tender pork chop, remember your body needs saturated fat and cholesterol to function optimally and to protect you internally!
As for the drugs…
If is wasn’t around 150 years ago, your body doesn’t need it!
Let your body heal itself by giving it the best nourishment you can…organic whole foods.
Onwards and Upwards
