One of the most powerful things I have adopted over the last few years is my non-negotiable ‘morning routine’.
This routine sets me up for the day ahead by clearing my mind, preparing my body, and getting me feeling like I have already ‘won the day’ before it has begun.
In today’s world of distractions, instant gratification and click bait, it’s easy to wake up and get caught in the noise of social media, the “news” of the day, or even work that you didn’t complete yesterday.
However, setting out time to start your day right gives you the best chance of side stepping all those traps and getting you into the best space possible so you can win the day.
I aim to get my morning routine done by 7.30am, that way I am at my desk well before most of the world, and in my mind I’m already ahead of the game.
So, what is my ‘morning routine’?
Well it’s a pretty simple collection of habits that I have developed myself from all the things I have learnt over the years, and that I know work for me, which I will go through now…
Wake up: 4.45 am
– Hypnotherapy
(I listen to a recording for that works on my programming my subconscious mind)
– Brush teeth
(Non fluoridated tooth paste)
– Drink my morning tonic
(The ingredients for this changes, but it always has a lemon or lime combined with a liver cleanser such as milk thistle)
– Movement
(This will be going to the gym, playing sport or Ti Chi/Qi Gong. I also take this time listen to learn by listening to podcast or book)
– Breath work
(A mixture of different breathing techniques to relax and/or energise the body)
– Walk (30 mins – I use this time to answer my clients messages or shot a video)
– Journal
(I write down what I am grateful for, as well as clearing my mind and my take for the day)
– Cold shower
(2mins – 5 mins – Immune system booster)
Start my day 7.30
One thing I don’t do when I wake up is reach for my phone and check social media or my messages.
I know how easy it is to get distracted by posts, comments and messages, so my phone doesn’t get touched until I walk out the door – and then it’s to listen to a podcast.
(Even if I post on social media during my morning routine, it is solely for the purpose of showing people what I am doing. I am using social media, I am not letting it use me.)
This morning routine has allowed me to be the most productive I’ve ever been.
It’s also allowed me to have the most energy I’ve experienced.
Going to bed earlier and getting up with the sun has meant my circadian rhythms are in perfect harmony, as well as letting my body most efficiently rest, rejuvenate and clear any debris that’s built up.
If you haven’t got yourself into a morning routine, then I suggest you do.
It could be the change that increases your health & accelerates you to your goals more than anything else.
