As the saying goes …
It’s easy to hate, it’s hard to create.
So often people who have created nothing, and have never put themselves out there to be criticised, feel the need to give their 2 pence worth to a friend or family member that has done just that.
Their comments often serve to belittle or bring down the person they are talking about, by telling them how they would have done things differently or better.
Well, it’s easy to say those things, it’s much harder to do them.
As our American friends so nicely put it …
“Everything is easy from the bleachers.”
Without time spent in the trenches, you have no idea what that person has gone through to get where they are, and that comment from their friend or family member, however, “well-meaning”, should always be taken within a huge pinch of salt.
My coach Chris Brown wrote a good piece on this a few days ago that I want to share with you below …
“Do not take Constructive Criticism from anyone that Hasn’t Constructed Anything
EVERY DAY you’re pushing forward you’ll be met with resistance.
You know the kind of unsolicited advice that circles.
People passing comments or judgements.
You may have experienced it yourself when chasing dreams and people not being supportive.
Thinking you’re too extreme, or that your dream is unrealistic.
Or that you should do something other…
Listen, the ONLY people you should listen to are those that have actually chased dreams, or done what you’re looking to do.
Block all other resistance out.
Acknowledge, smile and keep moving forward.
Choose Your mentors Carefully, Listen intently and absorb. Stay connected to your vision and take advice from the people whose judgement and decision making you can TRUST.
95% of people don’t deserve that say in your life.
Keep your trusted advisor circle small.”
And he’s right, 95% of people don’t deserve that say in your life, because 95% of people have done nothing to earn that right.
So, if you’re doing your thing, whether that be building your own business, chasing a dream of playing professional sport, going for a promotion, or picking up a new hobby, think carefully about whose advice you take to heart, because as the picture says,
“It’s always the motherf*ckers with no magic that try to tell you what to do with yours.”
Onwards & Upwards
