With so much conflicting information out there when it comes to health and being healthy I know how hard it can be to know what to do and when to do it. This is especially true when it comes to detoxing or cleansing the body.
And detoxing can be THE HARDEST thing to implement to in our daily routine as well as the most complicated. But it doesn’t have to be that way, it’s all mental, and as each day passed it gets easier. So here are some simple tips you can implement to get you started on the road to health and happiness. Here we go.
- I know it seems that way sometimes but it doesn’t have to be “all or nothing” when it comes to detoxing. Here is an example: if you feel a bit bloated from eating crap food… start with buying organic and changing your salt to Himalayan rock salt. Eating out (especially at conventional restaurants) adds so much sodium intake just in one sitting. Eat at home 5 days in a row, and bring your meals to work. On top of saving money, you know what’s in your food. And eat fresh stuff… fruits and vegetables.
- Taper off the sugar for 7 consecutive days. The first day or two of this can be particular challenging, but once you are through those it really is pain sailing and your cravings for sugar will completely disappear. Replace conventional sweeteners with low glycemic options (coconut palm sugar, sukrin gold, or liquid stevia). If you already use low glycemic sweeteners, use less or none at all. If you’re used to having some sort of juice everyday or you hit a wall and feel like having something other than water, make some hibiscus tea, which is very flavorful even when it’s unsweetened or a lemonade (water, freshly squeezed lemon and some liquid stevia.
- Drink your dinner every other night for 7 consecutive nights. This will give your digestive tract a break, since live juice doesn’t utilize bodily enzymes and has all of its nutritional value intact. If you don’t have a juicer, yiou can make a soup or smoothie instead by blending your ingredients. (A tasty smoothie could be something like 400ml of nut milk, coconut flakes, nuts and seeds, a scoop of an organic greens powder and a banana.)
- Remove starches from your first and last meal for 7 consecutive days. Make your breakfast full of fresh fruit, vegan protein smoothies, or a couple handfuls of almonds or cashews. Make your dinner full of dark green veggies, mushrooms, sprouts… the list goes on.
- Drink lots of water throughout the day (except around your meals as it dilutes stomach acid). Water is the key to making your body feel full when you’re changing up your eating habits. Most people don’t realise how dehydrated they actually are and can’t believe the change in energy they have when they up their water intake to 3 or 4 litres a day.
- Take a probiotic everyday. Keeping your gut in tip-top shape is essential for your overall well being. With over 70% of your immune system residing in your gut (called your enteric nervous system) your gut health is vital for you to live a live full of energy, vitality and vigour.
Even if you just try one or two of these suggestions above you will feel better than when you started.
These are some things Reviver’s do while detoxing:
– We drink plenty of water all day long (you can always add a squeeze of lemon or ionic magnesium minerals)
– We get plenty of rest, as your body needs adequate time to repair itself and it will be much more efficient in doing so while you’re detoxing, so give it of the rest it needs
– We exercise. THis doesn’t mean you have to go mad. It could be as simple as walking your dog or strolling with your kids, or your secret guilty pleasure such as dance cardio. As well as playing sport and lifting weights I am becoming a big fan of rock climbing and yoga. Whatever it is you want or feel you can do, do it.
– Do some gwashing! This is a phrase coined by Dr. Robert Cassar and it is a type of brushing massage used to get the blood up to the surface of your skin and helps your body to repair itself. I do it whilst watching TV at night. Just grab some coconut oil and go limb by limb.
AND remember although being healthy is going to help you in your journey it is also going to benefit others too. We need to be healthy for our family, so that we can be good role models. Plus when you feel healthy and happy you will bring joy everywhere you go as it’s just an awesome byproduct of feeling good, and you will be much more productive in achieving your goals.
