As you’re opening your presents
And you fill with festive cheer
I want to take a moment to thank
all friends from far and near.
Though we may not have exchanged presents
and though greetings cards were few
My favourite gifts all through this year
were the gifts that came from YOU
You gifted me your kindness
you gifted me your time
you gifted me your comments and ‘likes’
on each mad-rambling and rhyme
You gifted me your deepest truths
You gifted me your pain
You gifted me the opportunity
To help lift the load and ease the strain
And know that none of this is forgotten,
Taken for granted? Not at all!
I’ve valued each connection,
the large ones and the small
I’ve valued all your stories and carry them with care
For our stories are the compasses
That guide our lives from ‘here’ to ‘thereโ
So when you’re lost in darkness
When you’re burdened or distressed
Just ask and I’ll send back your story
with love and light as added interest
Use the light to guide your journey,
to beat the darkness from your door
And use the love to lift your heart (and lift it high)
And to remind you, you’re so much more.
