Not to implement change to a situation where change is clearly needed is, let’s be honest, foolish.
For example, if you are living in pain from a chronic illness and this pain is running your life, and everything you have been doing up to now such as going to doctors, “specialist”, consultants, and taking medication hasn’t worked …
Then maybe, just maybe, it’s time for change.
This is especially true if you have come across other methods and results that you have seen can relieve your pain.
Why someone in this position wouldn’t jump in with both feet and change straight away baffles me.
How much more evidence do you need that what you are doing now, isn’t ever going to work?
I understand that conforming to the way society says you should do things can be comforting, especially in an ever uncertain world.
And if these methods are working for you then great.
The problem arises when the things we are doing, or we have put faith in, aren’t working in our best interests.
Why does it still take some people so long to change their approach even when they know it will be for the better?
(Having watched numerous people do this I can’t express how frustrating it is to watch. However, as I have written before, some people hold on to their afflictions because it gives them an identity and attention.)
Luckily, for most people something, or someone, finally gets the message across to them clearly and succinctly and they accept they have got to change if they’re going to survive and flourish.
In this instance, we recognise that if we don’t, we will become resigned to a life of pain, frustration and regret.
However, even with all this evidence some people never pull the trigger of change.
Of course, these people want to change, just not immediately, not right now. They want time to think it through, to talk themselves out of it.
This is often referred to as, ‘The Law of Diminishing Intent’, and the longer a person leaves a situation and doesn’t take action, the less likely they will follow through with their supposed commitment.
To quote Steve Black, “Not to implement change immediately suggests naivety at best and stupidity at worst.
Do you want to stop smoking? Stop now! That’s it, thank you! No more complicated than that.
Don’t wait until the start of next month, or when you have finished the cigarettes you have stockpiled at home, do it now.
If you don’t, you’ve got just about no chance.”
And Steve is right.
When you know you should change, change … that way you can quickly get back to living life at its fullest.
Remember you are in control.
You are in control of what you do, what you eat, what you feel, where you are and who you surround yourself with.
And although we can’t control what goes on it the outside world, we can control our actions, and how we responses.
This makes our personal values and individual decisions even more important.
The decision to compromise and persist with unchanging behaviours will continue to lead to results we don’t want.
Unfortunately, most of life is driven by compromise because of fear of conflict and consequence. Most people want an easy life and they think that by compromising they will get that.
Not only will you not get that easy life, but you’ll be left with pain and regret, and you will most likely end up resenting yourself.
The truth is failing to change what is needed doesn’t lead to a life of fulfilment, it leads to a life of insecurity, frustration, heartache and when it comes to health, pain and disease.
So my questions to you are …
What is it that you know you should change in your life but you haven’t done so yet?
What have you known in your heart for a long time isn’t working?
What method(s) should you try instead?
Who do you need to work with or contact?
Who can help you change what you need to?
Hopefully answering those questions will lead you to where you need to go.
Equally, I hope this message will lead you to finally pulling the trigger and making the change(s) you need.
Because if you don’t do it now, when will you?
And by taking action now, in as soon as a week or a month you could finally be pain/frustration/anxiety/heartache free.
Wouldn’t that be great?
Exactly
So make the changes you need to make today.
I know you can do it.
Onwards & Upwards
