“I’ve learned more through Google than through all of what it took to get my medical degree and three board certifications. The word autism wasn’t mentioned once until halfway through my residency in 2005. And the medical establishment still felt autism was behavioral and not medical until very recently. If you take into account what medical insurance actually pays for (behavioral therapy and antipsychotics) it’s apparent what they still believe despite the mountains of research to the contrary.
I had a child suffer from autism in 2007. His pediatrician said this was normal (hand flapping, screeching, spinning, head banging, and constant diarrhea). I HAD to go to Google. Nothing I learned in my training could help my son. He’s now recovered.” – Dr Debra Gambrell
So refreshing to see this from a doctor. A doctor who once she realised her medical training could offer her no solutions had to go through different avenues to heal her child.
Remember you don’t know what you aren’t taught, and this is true for everyone, including doctors.
I’ve learn more through google, lectures, books, podcasts, seminars and mentor ships than I ever did at school or university about health and healing.
It allows us to get results that doctors can’t. It is also why we have had many doctors on our programs over the years who were looking to heal themselves and were getting no where fast with medication and surgery.
Sure the medical model has a place, and for accident and emergency it is priceless. However for chronic health issues it is redundant just as Dr Gambrell’s story illustrates.
